Best Drugstore Sunscreen!

Sun's out guns out baby! It's not long til the sun comes back to our lives (especially in sunny LA) so that means we need to add more protection to our daily skin care regimen. It's always good to use sunscreen throughout the year even when it's cloudy out but as the heat and sunny weather starts rolling in we need to increase our SPF and make sure it lasts. It really doesn't help to apply sunscreen to have it vanish within an hour.

My absolute favorite sunscreen would have to be Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock. This sunscreen comes in a really easy to use and mess free packaging. The product is creamy and has a good consistency; not too thick but not runny so you really don't need very much. I love that the product doesn't turn your face white and pasty. In the spring and summer I'll wear just the Dry-Touch Sunblock by itself or wear it as my primer/base. This is the one sunscreen that doesn't make my skin greasy when I put it on nor does it make my makeup slide throughout the day. It has a satin to dry/matte finish which is fabulous. In the heat, I don't need help getting the "dewy" look. I can put it on and go through my day without worrying or having to reapply. Best of all, this sunblock doesn't have the gross sunscreen smell. I hate the smell of sunscreen and I'd hate it even more if I had to put it on my face to have it linger all day long.

This is a great product that's under $20 at any drugstore. I'm not really sure why they have so many different SPF levels but they start from SPF 30 to 100+ so any of them would provide good protection. Sunscreen is something we should use everyday whether you're young, old, men, women, children, etc. This one's perfect for all!

Give Yourself a Hand

With most women’s skincare energies (understandably) focused on their faces, they very often forget that the thing that can often give away their age – sometimes prematurely – is their hands. While we may be unrelenting about putting sunscreen on our faces and necks, how often do we all walk out the door with sunscreen on the backs of our hands? Probably seldom to never. Then we’re encouraged to repeatedly wash our hands to stave off cold and flu germs, we slather bacterial gels all over them and we wipe them down with sanitizing wipes. These harsh drying habits are further compounded by winter weather, during which many of us cast aside our gloves because we can’t use our touch screens with them on. At best, then, we’re exposing our hands more and moisturizing them less. They take quite a beating, especially this time of year.
If you only have dryness, you can consider yourself fortunate, and begin to take preventive measures now, such as using a handcream with an SPF of at least 15 every day, and yes (I know it’s a hassle) re-applying after you wash your hands. If you’re not so lucky and you’ve started to see even the faintest brown spots (they come out more when you get a little sun), there are a number of products at different price points that can help reduce their appearance, as well as some at-home remedies such as lemon, or prescriptions such as hydroquinone.
I’ve seen a couple of brown spots crop up on my hands – no doubt from my carefree youth dousing myself in baby oil beginning the first day of spring like all my friends – and have had to remind myself again and again to protect my hands before I leave the apartment. One thing that’s made it easier is I simply put a little of my face cream (Kinerase Daily Defense Cream - specifically designed to protect and heal sun-damaged skin) right on my hands during my morning routine. Any kind of sunscreen you can use on your face is suitable for your hands.
But many companies now make great products specifically for this particular challenge. One of my favorites is Clarins’ Age Control Hand Lotion. Non-greasy, with natural ingredients and a fragrance to die for, it makes you want to reapply just to smell it again and again (although the price makes you think twice about doing that). On the more affordable end, Dove’s ProAge Hand Cream sports an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) content to support cell turnover in the skin. Even better on price, and SPF, Neutrogena’s Age Shield Hand Cream at 5.99 with an SPF of 30 is such a great buy and so small and cheap you can afford to keep one at home and drop one in your bag!

(T.O.) Colorful benefits!

I was always afraid of green peppers as a little girl. I guess this could be attributed to the fact that every time I ate green pepper, a horrible rash would break out on my arms; so I grew up avoiding green peppers as well as all other peppers. A few years ago I had a tri-pepper omelette that totally rocked my world (in a good way), and the best part? There was no allergic reaction. Needless to say I've been hooked ever since. I enjoy sitting down and snacking on a bowl full of green pepper strips... dunking them into a creamy ranch sauce...mmm yummy.
Even though I already knew that peppers were a healthy snack, I didn't know just how amazing they really are. Did you know that ALL peppers are rich in vitamins A, C and K? Why should you care? Well, vitamins A and C are antioxidants and they help prevent cell damage, cancer, as well as diseases caused by aging. They also support the immune system, and help in reducing inflammation caused by arthritis and even ashtma. Vitamin K strengthens bones, and helps protect cells from oxidative damage (changes seen in living organisms in response to excessive levels of cytotoxic oxidants and free radicals in the environment). Red peppers are an excellent source of lycopene which aids in preventing prostate, cervix, pancreas and bladder cancers. The benefits don't stop there; the Beta-cryptoxanthin found in red peppers, helps prevent lung cancer from both smoking and secondhand smoke. Peppers also provide a decent amount of fiber, and the heat in both hot and sweet peppers contains substances that have been shown to increase the body's heat production and oxygen consumption for about 20 minutes. That's right, simply eating peppers helps your body burn extra calories.
Get your eat on!

(T.O.) Braid it up!

Tyra Banks worked the hell out of those cornrows!
I've only had my braids in for a few weeks but I'm already excited to try a new style. I can't wait until the hair in the back and sides is long enough to do cornrows! Here are some of the styles that I'm interested in trying.
I love cornrows that start off thin at then get bigger as the braid goes on. I love this.
I would get the entire back cornrowed up  like the sides versus having my hair cornrowed downwards... but I still dig it!
I love the mix of big and small cornrows!
I love this! I think this may be the winner...

(T.O.) Upkeep...

I wore my hair in braids for 2 years back in 2007 and 2008, and almost forgot just how much I enjoy it! I love having my hair in braids mainly because they're so easy to maintain and it keeps me from effin around with my hair. I'm also glad to have one less thing to worry about when getting ready for work or school in the mornings!
I like keeping my braids in a bun, as it keeps the hair neat, as well as keeps them from getting caught in or under anything... eek!
My routine to keep my scalp clean and healthy consists of hot water, a face cloth, paltus/argan oil mix and braid spray. I simply wet the cloth, wipe my scalp, rinse, repeat until clean. After my scalp is clean, I oil it with the paltus/argan oil mix. I also use a braid spray as an everyday moisturizer for my scalp and hair.
No harmful ingredients in here... well at least I didn't see any on the label lol
Before bed I spray my scalp with a homemade spritz, and cover my hair with a satin wrap. If you currently have braids, make sure you're taking care of your scalp and hair the same way you would if you didn't have braids. Avoid pulling the braids back into tight styles, and make sure to keep your scalp clean and moisturized. Oh and sleep with a satin wrap every night to keep braids fresh, and neat.

I think I found the perfect doggy shoes for winter! After walking through the streets of NY winters, Jacob's paws had to be soaked 4 times over and over to wash them. Have you guys tried PAWZ?

(T.O.) The Wedding Show 2011- The Dress.

Gowns by Magdalena
Choosing the right dress is key in the wedding planning process. Bride-to-be's are on a constant search for that perfect dress. Focusing on the fun and exciting aspects, instead of how stressful it might get will help finding your dress a lot easier... Just imagine how good you'll feel and look when you find your perfect dress!
Bridesmaids can look forward to cute dresses as well!
Some tips on finding your dress:
♥ Set a realistic price range. Yes there are many beautiful expensive dresses out there, but there are even more gorgeous gowns that won't do serious damage to your wallet.
Just the right amount of poofiness!
♥ Try on a variety of dresses. It's understandable to want to buy the first dress that looks good, but that's probably just the excitement working... Have a few favorites then narrow them down to one.

I'm loving the blue!
♥ It's suggested that a bride-to-be visit lots of bridal stores, but I suggest looking at independent designers as well. They are able to offer you beautiful gowns,  not to mention the added bonus of having a custom made one of a kind gown!

I love the bottom part! Ines di Santo
Oscar de la Renta gown from White Toronto
♥ Don't set goals you can't meet. For example, if you want to wear a strapless gown and have hopes of toning up your arms, shoulders or whatever gown by the big day; don't get a a strapless gown. Do so only if you are willing to put in the work it takes to get sexy sculpted shoulders, arms, and whatever else before your wedding day.

Eco-couture collection by Adele Wechsler!
One of my faves! A rescued vintage gown that's over 70 years old by Labl (It also has a twin!)
♥ Find a dress that will suit the type of wedding you are having. For example if you're having a beach wedding, wearing a gown that is light, and breathable is a good idea.
Pretty dresses from Sash and Bustle
More from Sash and Bustle
Good luck in finding your perfect dress!
