Happy 2010 everyone! I am going to start each new year with a book recommendation. For 2009, everyone got Tribal - for 2010, get Passionate! I am a true believer in universal signs, kinetic energy and discovering your true passion. This past year has been a fantastic personal journey towards finding out my life's purpose and what I am truly good at. Here is a break down...


Jan:  I had the opportunity to hear Richard Branson speak during Ad Week. He inspired me to not fear the recession but to see it as "the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurship and time for companies that are slacking to be weeded out".  Thanks dude!

Feb: After the amazing SATCM party in May 2008, I spent a lot of time and energy concocting the best Shopaholic party Toronto has every seen! I planned this event for almost 9 months and it went off with out a hitch! Everyone had an amazing time and I even landed in BizBash.

March: Then came March, which means Toronto Fashion Week!  From the success of Shopaholic, I was so lucky to throw the Fashion Showdown featuring Le Malek and was sponsored by FUZE. I was so happy with the turnout and knew that event planning is going to be a big part of my life. I learned that creating something from nothing is a lot of work but well worth it. Everything in this world started as an idea. 

April: I went to Ryerson's Mass Exodus fashion show this month and left with a tinge of sadness that I never got to pursue my dreams in fashion school. So I decided this month that I should try to hone in on my passion and find a new direction for myself, one that is more focused and very specific to my talents and interests. I applied for FIDM this month and got accepted for the Beauty Marketing & Merchandising program. So I started planning for my last 2 months in Toronto. I took my best volunteer from Fashion Showdown and asked her to come 'on blog' and she did! That's Shay.

May: I know the importance of surrounding myself with inspirational, talent driven and passionate people. In May, I hosted the Stylus DJ Awards with Marc Ecko Timepiece for the 2 year! I learned that I love being on camera! Being on TV is another dream of mine! I am getting better at hosting and you can watch my progress on yvonnekai.com

June: I had my 25th birthday/going away party called California Dreamin' and I took off to LA. It was amazing to see both new friends and old come to send me off. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. Toronto events get hectic and Bella comes on-blog too this month!  Michael Jackson dies and the entire world weeps. I get to experience this in the city where he dies, Los Angeles. I was there by the Staples Center, realizing that in his death, it was a celebration of his life. I want my life to mean something.

July: I did something drastic this month. I dyed my hair black. I decided that it was a time for a change and time to embrace the new me. I start interning, learning more about LA, ate at Nobu but was not invited to Diddy's White Party. I meet some people and I tell them I hate LA - They tell me I'm suffering from Big Fish in Small Pond syndrome and they says Glossy, you are not in Toronto anymore. I concur.

August:  I get homesick because I missed Caribana, Nuit Blanch, Mentos event, meeting Quentin Tarintino, shopping with Wendy Woods, Cadillac fragrance launch, Absolut Art Installation and a slew of other fun Toronto Events.  I take off with Juzd to MAGIC for the 2nd year in row in Vegas. Recession hits hard and the 3 hall event turns into a 1 hall trade show. I come along and sell them optimism ^_^ I learn here that it's better to be in the Beauty business than the Fashion business - hello Lipstick Index!

September: I finished my 1st Quarter at FIDM and fly back to Toronto for my month long break! Wee! I have so much fun: Film Fest parties, Art of Fashion and tons of fun events. I miss my friends and Toronto! I realize that i get to enjoy my red carpet access because I worked my butt off to get there and if I want the same thing in LA I better put in double the work and 1/2 the dress size. Yikes. I also got to host Art of Fashion with their videographer. Just be open to all opportunities and it will find you.

October: I head back to LA and experience Halloween in LA - it's insanity. I realize how much weather affects people. I miss Toronto Fashion Week but I got to go to LA Fashion Week, made some new friends at school and bought a lil Honda! Everyone in LA drives - when in Rome...

November: I kick my studying into high gear and decide that I am going to get straight A's this quarter. I sign up for glass blowing class at the LA City College and I got my first products to review from Raw Mineral Makeup as an LA Blogger! I review Fred Segal, I start fostering a puppy and I go to my first CEW event. I am excited to get my first taste of the fabulous Beauty Industry. I love my life in LA.

December: I am back in Toronto for the holidays and I am proud of 2009. As Lissa would say two thousand and grind. I wanna say two thousand and mine. I entered a bag design contest at FIDM, I finish the quarter with a 3.92 GPA, I am excited about the sequins trend and I produced the very first HeyDoYou Style Diary.  So far so good.

Peeped this drink recipe in the January 2010 issue of NYLON magazine, tried it and must share... its soooo good! If you like moet and pomegranates this is a must-have beverage for 2010!

Moet Pomegranate Drop

• 6oz. Moet & Chandon Imperial Champagne


• 1 raw sugar cube


• a dash of pomegranate juice


• 1 orange twist

Soak the sugar cube in the pom juice and drop into the chilled champagne flute. Add Moet and garnish with orange twist.

The "new" Marky Mark!

Back when I was little girl (6), I used to sit in my aunt's (17 at the time) room and just stare at her HUGE Marky Mark poster. Don't ask me why; all I know is after I got bored of playing with my Barbies, I'd find my way to my aunt's room and just stare...Now that I'm older, I have a better understanding of why I got that "warm fuzzy feeling" every time I looked at that poster...

At the time I had no idea how successful this ad was or the wonders it did for CK underwear sales; but it makes perfect sense that CK would do a remake, and give us another "Marky Mark" for the new year!

Twilight cutie Kellan Lutz recently signed a contract with Calvin Klein underwear, to be "the new Marky Mark." A CK insider says they plan to make the ads very similar to the previous ones... I guess their hoping it'll get them the same attention... ahem sales. I think he has the body down pat, but he doesn't have that adorable smile that Mark Walhberg had... but I guess we'll just have to see.I don't know ladies, do you think he can pull it off? I mean what are we gonna call him? Kelly Kellan? argh!

According to one of my customers, a lot of people break up during the Christmas season; in a time when everybody is celebrating and coming together, that's pretty effing sad. But what she said got me thinking about something I heard two older girls (early 20s, I was 15 at the time) talking about about... well one was venting about her recent break up and the other was offering her "expert" single girl advice...LOL.
She said, "Girl, the best way to get over one man, is to get a new one."

According to the Urban Dictionary, rebounding is defined as: Going from one relationship to the next right away to avoid the pain of a breakup. The kind of relationship that's simply happening in order to get over one that recently ended.

As a child I never understood why one week Tommy liked Sarah, but Sarah thought Tommy had boy cooties, so the next week he was holding hands with Tracey during recess... the week after it was Ashley lol.

As I got older, I realized that this was how people were handling their relationships or lack of relationships... everyone, both male and female seemed to have this mindset. When my brother broke up with his girlfriend, his friends took him out to find him "a new friend"... lol. 

So do I agree with rebounding? Sure, to a certain extent. But I believe there's a RIGHT and WRONG way to rebound. Men and I've even heard women say that women are the worst when it comes to rebounding... and that's apparently because of our inability to have and maintain no-strings relationships bla bla bla... I definitely DO NOT agree with this one. I think women are too used to being told what their thinking or are capable of. It's true that we live in a "man's world", and that there are sooo many male-worshipping females out there *come back to us!*, but I don't believe that every single woman out there can't have a fun, no-strings rendez-vous! The way I see it there are 3 kinds of men... okay okay and women. 

The one's you love and would consider spending the rest or some of your life with. 

The ones you f**k. 

And of course the friends.

If you're going to rebound, might I suggest picking from the "the one's you f**k" category, versus the one's you love or friends category. I mean it's not rocket science. Now just because you pick from the "the one's you f**k" category, doesn't make you some master rebounder lol. You really shouldn't even be striving for that...

From my experience, after the end of a relationship, the LAST thing I want is a man... if anything I start my wifey hunt lol. But for some people, the rebound system works. If you fall in that category, I'd suggest clearing out the emotional baggage first, then picking a man from the appropriate category, and rebound away! lol

So how do you guys feel about rebounding? And do you really think everybody breaks up during the holiday season?

A Very Merry Christmas

Hey guys! Hope everyone's Christmas was AWESOME, mine was insane! Bobbing from house to house and city to city made for a very hectic Holiday... but NO complaints at all! My Mum, Step-dad and two little sisters came to visit from England which MADE my Christmas complete... the fam and I watched The Sound of Music pantomime (theatre play) at The Princess of Wales theatre, went shopping in Buffalo, had several birthday parties... etc, etc, etc. Needless to say... it was busy! With this said, I was suchhhh a lucky girl this year... guess Santa knew how good I've been ;)... here are some of my goodies, hope everyone's Christmas was as good as mine! xoxo

First off, I think Nicki Minaj is great. So whether this is her or not, I still think she's DOPE at her craft... But if this is for real, this is my ultimate transformation of 2009! I could care less if Remy Ma "ate the box" or not. LOL.

It seems like every single celebrity has their own scent now and more are popping up everyday. More than 3 million bottles of celebrity fragrances were purchased from department stores last year.

If you plan to be in Germany this March, you should check out the The Global Art of Perfumes conference. The Summit has secured the participation of sponsors and supporters, such as the City of Duesseldorf, the fragrance house Symrise, Cosmopolitan Magazine, and Sniffapalooza.

A key highlight will be a presentation by Li Edelkoort, one of the most renowned trend experts, with 30 offices worldwide, and one of the most influential voices in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. I want to go!

Back to why it smells like money... They're better than clothes, music and even movies. That's because the cost of creating a perfume can be relatively low. The perfume house doesn't have to pay for the "juice" — that's industry slang for the stuff inside the bottle. And for Spring 2010, Coty will be launching the new Beyonce 'Knowles-Carter's new scent is projected to rake in US$20 million over three years.

Wow wee. I think it's time to make a HeyDoYou perfume ^_^

Smart shoppers know to skip the Boxing Week sales and start saving for Spring! After watching some of the Spring 2010 runway shows on style.com, I strongly advise you to do the same! This spring is going to be entail a mix of the recessionista casual x a clever use of mix and match. High waisted bubble shorts,  liquid leggings, studs, blazers, open toe flats, leather looks, rolled-out-of-bed chic and dont f with me heels. There is a lot of black and white going on this Spring and some futurist, out-of-this-world stuff (see Alexander McQ)
