Ponyo

Ponyo the goldfish princess who longs to be human, I can relate
Ponyo (pronounced Pond-Yo) is the cutest movie that is coming out AUGUST 14 from Disney. I am so very excited because I am a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki(Spirited Away)! The girl looks just like the little girl May from Totoro, which my mom swears is me. So I guess I can be Ponyo too. The movie came out last year in Japanese and will be coming out this year in english. The voice cast includes Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett and a whole slew of young Hollywood.

The film tells the story of a baby goldfish named Ponyo (voiced by Noah Cyrus) who desires to be a human, and gets her wish. She runs away from her home in the sea and befriends a five-year-old human boy named Sosuke (Frankie Jonas). Other cast members include Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin and Betty White.

Watch the trailer:

I think I kinda look like her, what do you think?

iSkin Vibes FX

You know you are a fashionista when you just simply have to personalize and accessorize everything you own. For those of you know who about me and Blackberries - you know that it's a love - hate relationship. I love them and they make my life so much easier but I have also been careless and lost.. um .. 6 of them this year :( Anyway... I am with T-Mobile now with my Blackberry Curve and I am determine to put in the work to make this one stay!

To show my Blackberry that this time it's gonna be different and I really am going to try, I even got him a brand spanking new Vibes FX case from iSkin. The case is super snug and not like those wobbly silicon ones. There truly is a premium look and feel with this... loves it. You can get it for the Blackberry Javelin, Bold and Storm - so far. They come in 4 different colors and I think I have to rename my Blackberry GrapeJelly starting.. Today!

"You'll Never Look a Black Man the Same Again!"

We have the pleasure of being the first blog to introduce you to the 'Secrets of a Black Boy'. Toronto's own playwright/actor Darren Anthony gives us a direct look into the minds of black men with his debut show. Brother of Trey Anthony, playwright/producer of box office hits ''Da Kink in My Hair' and 'I am Not a Dinner Mint', discovered his own writing abilities while being surrounded by these.

Theatre for people who don't like theatre; 'Secrets of a Black Boy' reaches and emerges with a new generation of theatre go'ers. Experience in child and youth work gave Darren Anthony ideas to sort through his personal mind. After reflection and discovery arose... 'Secrets'. The workshop sold out all four scheduled performances and were held back for an additional two shows.
We as a young, urban society can recognize characteristics that define "us". Entertainment that we can all identify with, from gun violence to interracial dating, Trey Anthony Productions delivers quality theatre experiences while discussing the diversity of Canadian culture for the urban male. Darren Anthony is opening our minds and has dared the young, urban community to be entertained!

The Music Hall will house 10 shows running from September 23rd to October 3rd. Tickets can be purchased at The Music Hall Box Office at (416)778-8163, online at http://www.ticketmaster.ca/ or at the door.

Frugal Fashion Week

This past Thursday, July 23rd , frugalista's gathered on busy Queen Street West to celebrate the debut of Toronto's Frugal Fashion week, organized by the lovely Gillian Downes of GDPR.

FFW consisted of a series of inspired events including a street-long shop crawl, midnight madness sale at 69 Vintage, a delicious brunch, silent auctions, guerrilla fashions shows that featured clothing from a variety of stores including two of our favourites: Fashionably Yours and Brazen Hussy and much much more.

The first fashion week of its kind, FFW partnered with commercial communities in order to meet the consumer need for retail incentives and creative shopping outlets. This four-day long event kicked off with the Frugal Fashion Week Media + Industry Launch event at noted boutique, Chasse Gardée; where guests enjoyed a variety of hors d'oeuvres, as well as FFW gifts from talented jewellery designer Melissa Clemente.

On Friday July 24th, The Social; one of Queen West's most notorious hotspots, set the stage for FFW Official Launch Party, where Frugalista's mixed, mingled and danced the night away, while models walked the runway (The Social's bar top) wearing designs from 69 Vintage. Fun times!

Frugal Fashion Week checked into the Drake Hotel on Saturday, where Frugalistas enjoyed a delicious 3-course brunch, created by the Drake’s gracious staff, as well as engergy-packed gift-bags, featuring items to help frugalistas get through a day of serious shoppring. After brunch, frugalistas hit queen street west with one goal in mind: to shop! Unfortunately mother nature wasn't too accommodating as it poured like crazy soon after :(

The week ended with Lazy Sunday: A day for strolling through the neighbourhood while enjoying the galleries, bars, restaurants and boutiques. Sunday was the frugalistas' day to experience Queen Street West at their own leisure, and create their own Queen Street West shop crawl.

A few Shop Crawl Boutiques:

♥ Brazen Hussy at Coal
♥ Champagne and Cupcakes
♥ Chasse Gardée
♥ Fashionably Yours

A portion of the proceeds from FFW will be donated to Windfall; Canada's only new clothing bank. They distribute donations of new clothing and other basic need items through partnerships with over 90 social service agencies in the G.T.A.

I had fun, it's too bad it rained, I really wanted to see ALL of the fashion shows.

Maybe next year!

Factory Girl

Do you know the story of Edie Sedgwick? (April 20, 1943 – November 16, 1971) was an American actress, socialite, model, and heiress. She is best known for being one of Andy Warhol's Muses. Sedgwick became known as "The Girl of Year" in 1965 after starring in several of Andy Warhol's short films in the 1960s. I just watched Factory Girl, a movie based on her life. Wow. She died at 28 and because she really got caught up. Don't get caught up.

My favorite lines from the movie are:
"You are so scared to lose everything that doesn't mean anything" - which her boyfriend says to her when he's leaving the Factory. She realizes that was the biggest mistake of her life not leaving with him, and re-entering the world of Andy Warhol for the glitz and fun and games and drugs.

"I think sex is too abstract anyway" Andy Warhol said this and as weird as he was, he was really just not about definitions or any rigid definitions in any facet of his life. Think about that one. I also loved the part when her real friend from home, Syd, shows her the last pic he took of her before she left for the Big Apple - He asks her, do you remember this girl? She ran out of the cab sobbing. You need to have real friends in your life who are really really going to be there for you when the 'party' is over.

"So much more fun in NY since you showed up" is what Andy says to Edie when he first meets her. My take on this is that yes, you can always make someone else's world more fun, inspire them and be their muse. BUT don't forget about yourself and to look out for your own interests. Edie did not do that and consequently got caught up and destroyed her life. If you are looking for a good movie this weekend, you can rent this on NetFlicks

Andy Warhol was right when he said she created a whole new look and every girl wanted to look like her. This is the "Edie" look, I love it:
